Talkabout is a globally recognised programme designed to develop social communication, self-esteem, and friendship skills for children and adults. It also includes resources for teaching sex and relationship skills.
With ten Talkabout books covering various age groups, the programme offers a range of supplementary resources, including the Talkabout Boardgame, card games, posters, and video library.
The latest addition, TASS (Talkabout Assessment of Social Skills ), replaces the previous assessment CD, providing a comprehensive tool for evaluating social communication and related factors.
Explore Talkabout’s proven resources to support social communication effectively.
✔️A hierarchical approach to teaching social communication: foundation skills are taught prior to more complex skills.
✔️ Includes an assessment and outcome measures: the TASS provides a tool to quantify results and measure effectiveness of intervention.
✔️ Includes activities and plans of intervention: Talkabout is a scheme of work that is designed to be followed week by week, with resources that can be used to plan your intervention easily.
✔️ Suitable for all ages: the different books are designed with a certain population in mind, so that you will use the resource best suited to your client group, from young children (4+) to adults.
✔️ Suitable to put onto a school curriculum: most of the Talkabout resources have been written with schools in mind, so that teachers can easily put social communication into their lessons or onto their curriculum.
✔️ Proven effectiveness: Talkabout has been proved to be an effective tool for developing self-esteem, social communication and friendship skills and we are happy to share evidence from schools who have measured their progress.

We can offer training in all aspects of social and emotional communication. Our work as therapists, researchers and authors, and therefore our training courses, are underpinned by 3 essential elements:
- What does the research say?… ensuring our practice is always evidence-based.
- What does the person say?… ensuring we listen to the person’s voice, what they want, and how to make sure intervention is person-centred.
- Why are we here?... ensuring intervention is aimed at improving quality of life and empowering self-advocacy.

- Talkabout is a structured, hierarchical approach to teaching social communication, self-esteem and friendship skills. Later books include programmes to develop sex and relationship skills, theory of mind, and transition skills.
- The Talkabout resources are practical, easy to follow and the core manuals can be used alongside the TASS to assess and track progress.
- The Talkabout books are in colour and are written with a specific client group in mind.
- Talkabout books are photocopiable but once purchased, activities can be downloaded from the Routledge website.
