Autism and Communication training

This course aims to consider communication needs associated with autism and to offer practical strategies which can be used to support autistic individuals. It aims to educate participants regarding a neurodiversity affirming approach which promotes inclusivity and empowers self-advocacy for autistic individuals. This course is facilitated by an autistic and non-autistic speech and language therapist and includes sharing of some lived experience. It can be adapted for education or corporate settings.

Dr Naomi Pearson qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2000. She has worked in a variety of settings within the NHS before moving to independent practice. Naomi is the Managing Director at Speaking Space (Romsey) Ltd and has been a Makaton Tutor since 2010.

Rhian Bond is a Speech and Language Therapist with over 10 years experience working in a range of educational settings and specialist provisions. She is the lead therapist for SEMH and the therapy manager for Speaking Space.

Clive Braime qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2020. He has worked in a variety of mainstream and special needs settings, and became a lead therapist focusing on Autism in 2024. In this role, he supports the team to use and develop neurodiversity affirming approaches both as a therapist and when delivering staff training.
