This course will provide an introduction to using Total Communication to support individuals with complex communication needs.. Learn how to use different communication methods (including objects, signing, communication books/ apps) and create a positive communication environment. to maximise opportunities for communication. There will be some theory and discussions/ demonstrations to explore the different methods and how to adapt your communication to support functional and meaningful communication. The course will be run by our highly experienced speech and language therapists who will provide you with strategies and examples to use in your settings.
Anyone who supports children or adults with an intellectual disability (learning disability) and communication needs.
At our Speaking Space office in Romsey, online or we can come to you.

Dr Naomi Pearson qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2000. She has worked in a variety of settings within the NHS before moving to independent practice. Naomi is the Managing Director at Speaking Space (Romsey) Ltd and has been a Makaton Tutor since 2010.
Tors Walsh is a speech and language therapist who qualified in 2019. She has experience working with both children and adults within intellectual disability and social, emotional and mental health settings. Tors is also the manager at Speaking Space Day Service, where she helps to create a Total Communication environment to support our members.
