The Talkabout Assessment of Social Skills (TASS) is a NEW assessment tool using a software programme which allows you to input and analyse your assessment of social skills. It gathers information from key sources to provide a holistic view of a person’s social communication. It also uses rating scales to enable quantitative analysis of intervention.
The TASS includes a rating of a person’s social communication (nonverbal, verbal and assertiveness) but also assesses a person within a broader context of social skills including associated factors and quality of life indicators, and an assessment of self-awareness and self-esteem.
We offer 2 NEW courses in using the TASS:
Introduction to TASS (1 hour online)
9th September, 15th November, 20th January, 3.30pm to 4.30pm

An overview of the course
This is a practical introduction to using the TASS assessment. Dr Naomi Pearson (one of the authors) will walk you through the assessment and will explain how to use the different sections in the most effective way. This one-hour training is an essential start to using this exciting new tool in your setting. This is aimed at anyone who would like to use the TASS as an assessment tool of social communication.
The course is aimed at anyone who has started to use the TASS as a social communication assessment tool, or is planning to and wants to find out more about it.

You may have already attended a Talkabout training session (or not) but this course will introduce you to how to assess and reassess using this exciting new tool. Alex and Naomi (the authors) will walk you through the assessment and will explain how to use the different sections in the most effective way. We will use case studies and practical exercises to ensure you feel confident in using this tool in the most effective way in your setting.
The course is aimed at anyone who is using the TASS as a social communication assessment tool, or is planning to start using it and wants to feel confident in doing so.
A bit about the trainers….
Alex Kelly is the author of the Talkabout publications. She has 35 years’ experience working as a speech & language therapist (SLT) with people around social communication. She spent 23 years working in the NHS but now divides her time between her Talkabout training work & personal commitments.
Naomi Pearson is a SLT & has worked with Alex for 24 years. She is the co-author of the Talkabout Assessment of Social Skills (pub 2024) & has completed a PhD in social communication research in 2024. She is the Managing Director at Speaking Space (Romsey) Ltd, a SLT company set up by Alex in 2009.
